Testimony’s
1.Summit Hazmat and Emergency Consulting
In the fall of 2025, we hired Summit Hazmat and Emergency Consulting to deliver training on Lithium-Ion batteries—a growing area of concern for Fire Departments everywhere.
Instructor Mr. Greg Scott demonstrated a clear and comprehensive understanding of battery fire recognition and the tactics required to manage such incidents. He delivered a PowerPoint presentation highlighting key concepts and reinforced these points with real-life experiences.
Following the classroom portion, Mr. Scott provided hands-on instruction by conducting a detailed walk‑around of a plug‑in hybrid vehicle. He identified areas of concern, potential locations of high‑voltage cables, and sources for additional technical information. During this session, members were also encouraged to download firefighter assistance apps and were shown how to look up vehicle information, including VIN locations and safety features.
While many training briefs conclude at this stage, the Summit Hazmat and Emergency Consulting team goes further by incorporating practical safety procedures. Firefighters donned full bunker gear and SCBAs to practice proper decontamination protocols, ensuring both member and scene safety from potential contamination. Recent studies have shown these procedures to be critical in preventing acute and chronic health issues among firefighters.
12 Wing Shearwater found this training highly beneficial and intends to contact Summit Hazmat and Emergency Consulting in the future for refresher sessions and updates on emerging information and techniques.

I recently completed the Hazmat Alternative Fuel Vehicle Recognition course facilitated by Summit Hazmat and Emergency Consulting during the FSWO 2025 symposium. As a first responder, the Instructor Greg Scott demonstrated the ability to the course to quickly identify EV and hybrid vehicles is becoming a consistent necessity. This course provided insight into specific suppression tactics that differ from traditional vehicle fires. Most importantly, the module on post-fire decontamination was eye-opening, highlighting the specific toxins we are exposed to with lithium-ion runoff.”

3. Alternative Fuel Vehicle Recognition Course
Fire Service Women of Ontario – Annual Training Symposium
Instructor: Summit HAZMAT and Emergency Consulting – Greg Scott
Date Attended: October 23, 2025
I recently attended the Alternative Fuel Vehicles course delivered by Summit HAZMAT and Emergency Consulting at the Fire Service Women of Ontario’s annual training symposium. The session exceeded expectations in both depth and relevance, offering an exceptional learning experience on a rapidly evolving topic.
Mr. Scott was extremely well-versed in all aspects of alternative fuel technologies, including electric, hybrid, hydrogen, and other emerging systems. Their expertise was evident not only in the technical accuracy of the content but also in the practical, operational insight they brought to each discussion. Complex concepts were broken down clearly, making the material accessible while still maintaining a high level of technical detail.
The course addressed the characteristics, hazards, and tactical considerations specific to alternative fuel vehicle incidents. Mr. Scott presented modern, realistic strategies for safely responding to fires and emergencies involving these vehicles—scenarios that are increasingly common and often present unique dangers to first responders. The real-world examples, current research, and up-to-date industry standards made the training directly applicable to today’s emergency operations.
This course provided invaluable knowledge that enhances responder safety and preparedness. Summit HAZMAT and Emergency Consulting delivered one of the most relevant and timely classes I have attended, and I highly recommend this training for any emergency responder seeking to improve their competence and confidence when dealing with alternative fuel vehicle incidents.
